Academic Expectations of Players
Students must earn 105 credits to participate in our graduation ceremony. This is a Horizon School Division Policy. Students only need 100 credits to receive their graduation Diploma from Alberta Education. Vauxhall High Schools offers a full range of Academic courses as well as many CTS courses. The CTS courses include woodworking, welding, automotives, computers, financial management, information processing, multimedia as well as home economics and fashion studies. We also have options such as band, art, Drama, and P.E. We offer Green Certificate, work experience and other off campus opportunities such as the Registered Apprenticeship Program. Players must understand that Vauxhall High School has a history of Academic success. In no way will academics be compromised. Players within the Academy will be held to the same standards as all students at VHS. Vauxhall Academy of Baseball players must maintain satisfactory marks in all subjects. Each student will excel and be challenged to meet their personal potential in each course. Ongoing communication between coaches, teachers and administrators will ensure that academic performance is monitored and acted upon if necessary. Success will be achieved in academics as well as athletics! Along with the above mentioned requirements of the students at Vauxhall High School the participants at the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball will receive various cross-curriculum connections that will be also aimed at improving their overall baseball development. Examples of this would be receiving instruction in Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, biomechanics and Athletic Therapy. In other areas of studies students will have assignments which work towards their baseball development. For example students will work on their computer skills/knowledge when they prepare a video analysis of their play (fielding/throwing/hitting) and compare it with those at the professional level. Students will also have “extra” required reading assignments in terms of baseball related subject areas (biographies, history, instructional). These are some examples of curriculum that will be part of everyday classes, but focused and intended on helping the academy’s students well being.
