Message from the Principal

How can I sum up what to expect from your experience at Vauxhall High School? Well, I could list the individual and group successes so you could see what life is really like at VHS. We could delve into the fantastic field trips offered, they range from snakes and the Hay’s Hoodoos to the grade 12 Annual Europe Trip. We could talk about the excellent staff and students at VHS. We have numerous teachers that have been recognized as outstanding teachers, we have an Edwin Parr beginning teacher nominee, Two Apegga award nominees and winner as well as many Outstanding Teacher nominees and an Outstanding Teacher award winner. In fact, our school was recognized as an academic leader within our division by Superintendent Eric Johnson. We could further mention our school’s academic successes when we gave out 29,070 dollars at our annual academic awards night. We could list the accomplishments of our various junior and senior sports teams which include another provincial banner for the senior girls’ volleyball team, another league title for the senior boy’s basketball team, as well as winning the bronze at Provincials. We cold tell of our awesome boy’s baseball team and amazing girl’s slo-pitch team. Which include another Provincial Championship for Baseball as well as the Southern Alberta high School girls’ league championship for the fourth consecutive year. We could list the accomplishments of the Midget boy’s hockey team made up mostly from our student body; how they destroyed every team they played on their way to back to back provincial gold. We could mention how our community and school fundraiser pulled together to raise over $24,000 dollars on a single night. We could even mention the ways in which our school safe and caring committee spearheaded a division wide initiative that generated over $15,000 for Tsunami Relief. Our Safe and caring leadership committee believes students need to be meaningfully involved, feel confident and proud of themselves and their school. Students have a right to come to school without fear and find a strong foundation of open, caring, and trusting relationships within in our halls. Students on this committee set up “cozy corners”, (furniture for students to sit on), help at the soup kitchen, fundraise for the food bank, learn skills for public speaking, and attend conferences. We could even toot our horn about students council, who put on our video dances, pancake breakfasts, spirit week, pep rallies, fundraise for the women’s shelter, hold fun contests, and serve at the Seniors Christmas supper, as well as supporting leadership programs such as REDA Youth Summer Program www.reda.onware.ca , and Encounters Canada, a week long stay in Ottawa at the Terry Fox Centre, featuring a visit to Parliament Hill, guest speakers, and various activities depending on the theme week you choose. Theme weeks include: Arts and Culture, Medicine and Health, Sports and Fitness, Law, Science and Technology, R.C.M.P. and many others.
